The acquisition means two things for Xmarks users:
Xmarks is NOT shutting down! It will continue to be the same free service that you know and love.
Xmarks now offers a Premium service for $12 per year that includes the iPhone and Android apps, advanced features, and priority support.
We hope that as an active Xmarks user, you will consider upgrading to Xmarks Premium to gain access to these features. Your support will not only ensure our long-term viability, but will also help accelerate the introduction of new features and service improvements.

Xmarks Premium users can use backup & restore to undo mistakes, recover from hard drive crashes, and more!

Open browser tab synchronization makes life easier for Xmarks Premium users by letting you pick up where you left off while at home, at the office, or anywhere! - Priority Support
Quick support via email.
Xmarks Premium users get priority support via email, and your suggestions for continued development will be given higher weight.
もう一つ気になるのが、Open Tab Syncです。これも便利そうに思えて、逆に同期されたら不便なこともあるだろうし、ちょっと微妙に感じています。試してみないと良さは分からないなぁ、と思いながらもMobileMeに移行してしまったのでちょっと悩ましいところです。
Xmarksを今でも使っていればプレミアムサービスの内容がどうあれ、存続のための1ドル/月は惜しむことなく払っていたと思います。
今はもう少しサービスレビューが出るまで悩んでみます。
